Who we are
At Island Solar, we simplify solar energy solutions for homes and businesses. Our mission is to empower you to save on energy costs while contributing to a sustainable future. We're based in Crestwood, NSW (ABN 47 643 018 919), and we service Canberra, Queanbeyan, Sutton, Gundaroo, Royalla, Crestwood, Batemans Bay, and the wider NSW & ACT region.
We make the solar installation process easy — using CEC-approved products and CEC-accredited installers — so you save money while contributing to a sustainable future. We make transitioning to solar energy seamless for both residential and commercial clients, rather than something you have to manage yourself across multiple trades.
How we work
Every job goes through the same four stages, regardless of size: a free, no-obligation assessment of your site and energy usage; a system design tailored to what we actually find, not a generic package; installation by CEC-accredited, licensed installers; and ongoing maintenance so the system keeps performing for years, not just on install day. That last part matters more than it sounds — see our servicing page for what ongoing support actually looks like, including for systems we didn't originally install.
We also price honestly. Our on-grid pricing is fitted from our own completed jobs ($824/kW PV, $429/kWh battery) rather than an industry-average figure, and where a job genuinely doesn't fit a clean per-unit rate — off-grid systems, mainly — we say so and quote a real number after a site visit instead of a number that won't hold up. That approach runs through our guides too: we'd rather publish fewer, more useful articles than pad the blog with thin content.
Why it exists
Solar quotes are notoriously hard to compare — different installers size systems differently, quote different components, and aren't always upfront about what's actually included. We built Island Solar around the opposite approach: a proper site assessment before any number is given, transparent pricing built from real completed jobs rather than marketing averages, and a workmanship warranty on our own installation work so a wiring or installation issue isn't something you'd need to chase a manufacturer for.
Accreditation & standards
- CEC-accredited installers, using CEC-approved products — required for STC rebate eligibility, and a baseline worth checking with any installer you're considering (see our guide to choosing a CEC-accredited installer).
- Licensed electricians for switchboard upgrades, wiring and general electrical work — not subcontracted out to whoever's available.
- 100+ projects completed across NSW & the ACT.
- 5.0★ on Google from real customers — see our reviews page for the full picture.
Where we work
Our core territory is Canberra, Queanbeyan, Sutton, Gundaroo, Royalla and Crestwood, plus Batemans Bay and the NSW South Coast corridor — including Bega, Ulladulla and Merimbula for off-grid work. More broadly, we service NSW & the ACT — if you're not sure whether your property is within reach, give us a call rather than assuming.
What we actually do
Four things, and we don't stretch beyond them: Solar Systems — custom-designed installations for residential and commercial properties, sized to your actual usage rather than a generic package; Solar Servicing — maintenance and fault-finding to keep existing systems (ours or someone else's) performing properly for years, not just on install day; Energy Monitoring — real-time visibility into what you're generating, using and saving, so decisions about batteries or usage timing are based on your actual numbers; and General Electrical — switchboard upgrades, wiring and general electrical work carried out by our own licensed electricians, rather than farmed out to a subcontractor we don't know.
Our commitment
We'd rather tell you a system won't pay off the way you're hoping than sell you one anyway. That shows up in small, unglamorous ways: quoting off-grid systems with a real range instead of a fabricated per-kW rate that doesn't hold up in practice, pointing out when a grid-connect battery is a better fit than genuine off-grid, and publishing pricing and sizing information (see our blog) that lets you sanity-check a quote before you've committed to anything. If that means a slower sales conversation than a competitor promising the lowest number, that's a trade-off we're comfortable making.
