Who installs your system

Island Solar Australia is a small team of CEC-accredited installers. We are based at 19 Stephens Rd, Crestwood NSW 2620, in Queanbeyan, a short drive from the ACT border. The people who assess your roof are the people who install the system, and the same team looks after it afterwards through our servicing.

Every system uses products on the Clean Energy Council's approved list, which keeps your system eligible for STCs. For what to check before you sign with any installer, see our guide to choosing a CEC-accredited installer.

Just over the border, see our Queanbeyan and Bungendore guides.

What is different about solar in Canberra

Network. Canberra homes are on the Evoenergy network. Evoenergy approves each new system and sets how much it may export to the grid. Limits vary by site and change over time, so ask your installer for your approved export limit in writing before you sign.

Tariffs. Our savings calculator uses an ACT retail tariff of about 37c/kWh (ICRC) and a feed-in tariff of about 6c/kWh (Evoenergy network). Each kWh you use yourself is worth around six times a kWh you export. That gap is why sizing to your daytime use, and adding a battery, matters more than the panel count.

Climate. A well-placed system in the Canberra region generates around 1,350 kWh per kW of panels per year. Cold, clear winter days suit panels, but short days and evening heating loads mean many Canberra homes use most of their power after dark.

What it costs

Our on-grid pricing comes from our own completed jobs: $824 per kW of installed solar, plus $429 per kWh if you add a battery. A 6.6kW system prices out at around $5,438 before rebates. Your quote confirms the final price after a free site assessment.

STCs reduce the upfront cost, and the amount changes over time. See our rebates and STCs guide for how they work. Run your own numbers on the savings calculator (choose ACT), or read our Canberra solar cost guide for worked examples by system size.

Batteries in Canberra

With a 6c feed-in tariff and long winter evenings, a battery lets you keep more of your own solar instead of exporting it cheaply. Whether it pays back depends on when you use power, so we model it for your household rather than quote a generic payback period. See battery storage for sizing and pricing, and our Canberra and Queanbeyan battery guide for worked numbers.

What we install

We install grid-connected solar for homes and businesses, add batteries to new and existing systems, and service systems we did not install. See residential solar, commercial solar and inverters.

Canberra solar FAQ

Do you install in the ACT if you are based in NSW?

Yes. Our base in Crestwood, Queanbeyan, is just over the border, and Canberra is our main service area along with Queanbeyan.

Who approves my system's export limit?

Evoenergy, the ACT's electricity network. The limit depends on your site and your supply. Ask for the approved figure in writing before installation.

What happens between quote and switch-on?

Site inspection, network approval, install day and compliance sign-off. The approval runs alongside scheduling, so it should not hold up your job. See our installation process guide for each step.

Can you add a battery to my existing system?

Yes, even if we did not install your solar. Some inverters take a battery directly; others need a separate battery inverter. We check yours during the free site assessment.
