If you have a RedEarth battery (often searched as Red Earth Energy: Troppo, SunRise and the rest of the range) or a Sky Energy SkyBox cabinet, you have probably seen the news and wondered whether your battery, and its warranty, is now worthless. Short answer: your battery keeps working, and you still have options. Administration is not the same as liquidation, and Australian Consumer Law gives you rights that do not disappear when a manufacturer gets into trouble.
We have installed RedEarth batteries for Canberra and Queanbeyan region homes ourselves, so this one is personal for us too. This guide sets out the confirmed facts as at 4 November 2026 and the practical steps we are giving our own customers.

| Reason given | Competition from cheaper imported batteries, particularly in the residential market | Not stated in the published notices |
RedEarth's administrators ran an expressions of interest process for the business, covering its intellectual property, inventory and equipment, and staff were reported as having been told their employment had ended. For Sky Energy, the ASIC notices put the question of a deed of company arrangement, ending the administration or winding up to creditors at the second meeting. Note that an older entity, Sky Energy Group Pty Ltd (ACN 634 487 620), has been in liquidation since April 2024; that is a separate company.
Sky Energy has now closed. Its former web addresses (skyenergy.com.au and skyenergysystems.com.au) now carry a notice saying the company has ceased trading and that its staff, phone numbers and email addresses are no longer monitored. Those domains were bought by an unrelated installer, Wise Energy Pty Ltd, which states that it acquired the domain names only: not Sky Energy's business, contracts, deposits, warranties or liabilities. Emails sent to old Sky Energy addresses now reach that company, not Sky Energy or its administrators, so do not use them to lodge a warranty claim or a creditor claim.
Administration vs liquidation: why the difference matters
In voluntary administration an independent administrator takes control of the company and works out whether it can be sold, restructured or saved. A buyer of the business may choose to keep honouring warranties, because the brand is worth more with its customers intact. In liquidation the company is wound up and its assets sold; outstanding warranty obligations generally become claims by unsecured creditors, which rarely pay out in full.
For RedEarth, the door is not closed while the administrators look for a buyer: register your interest now, so you are on the list if a buyer takes over the warranty book. For Sky Energy, the business has stopped trading, so the realistic route is the warranties of the individual components inside your SkyBox (see below).
What happens to your battery warranty
Three separate layers of protection sit behind a home battery, and only one of them depends on the manufacturer still trading:
- The manufacturer's warranty. This is the layer at risk. Until a buyer or the administrator says otherwise, assume new claims may be slow or not processed. RedEarth has long routed warranty claims through installers rather than direct to the public, with the installer raising a return authorisation (RMA) first, so your installer is your first call either way.
- Your installer's workmanship warranty. This covers the installation itself (wiring, isolators, mounting, commissioning) and is unaffected by the manufacturer's position, as long as your installer is still trading.
- Australian Consumer Law guarantees. Goods must be of acceptable quality and last a reasonable time, regardless of any written warranty. These rights run against the business that sold you the system, not only the manufacturer. If your installer sold you a battery that fails early, you can raise it with them. The ACCC's consumer guarantees page explains how.
SkyBox owners: claim through the component makers
A SkyBox is a cabinet built around components from other manufacturers: the inverter, battery modules and charge controllers each have their own maker and their own warranty, and those warranties do not depend on Sky Energy. Open the cabinet doors (never remove internal covers) and photograph every label close enough to read the brand, model and serial number. Then contact each maker directly, ask whether your unit is registered and how much warranty is left, and register it in your own name now rather than when something fails.
Some SkyBox warranty documents also name Sky Energy entities other than the two in administration, so check exactly which company issued yours before lodging a creditor claim with BDO.
What to do now: a checklist for RedEarth and SkyBox owners
- Do not panic or switch anything off. A battery in administration is still the same battery. If it is working today, it will keep working.
- Find your paperwork. Invoice, installation date, battery and inverter serial numbers, warranty certificate and the installer's name. Photograph the labels on the units.
- Take back your monitoring. Some batteries rely on the maker's cloud platform for remote monitoring and firmware. If the account was set up under the installer's name or email (common with SkyBox systems), contact the inverter or battery maker and ask to move it to your own account. If the app stops updating, the battery normally keeps running locally, but you lose early warning of faults.
- Call your installer first. They hold the relationship with the manufacturer, can tell you if a fault is a warranty matter, and owe you their own workmanship warranty and consumer guarantee obligations.
- Register with the administrator. B&T Advisory for RedEarth, BDO (Melbourne) for Sky Energy. Ask how warranty claims are being handled and lodge a proof of debt if you have an open claim or unpaid deposit. Contact BDO directly, not through old Sky Energy email addresses, which now go to an unrelated company.
- Unpaid deposit on an order that never arrived? Contact the administrator, and if you paid by credit card ask your bank about a chargeback.
- Get a health check if anything looks off. Error codes, falling capacity, a battery that no longer reaches full charge or a dead monitoring app are worth an inspection before a minor issue becomes a failure.
RedEarth or SkyBox battery in Canberra or Queanbeyan?
We will assess your system and tell you honestly whether it needs anything, regardless of who installed it.
If we installed your RedEarth battery
We have fitted RedEarth batteries across our service area, including a pair of RedEarth Troppo 4.1kWh batteries in Bungendore. If we installed yours, our workmanship warranty on that installation stands exactly as it did before the news, and we are the right first call for any fault. Ring us on 0422 292 551 with your serial number and we will work through it with you, including any claim to the administrator or a future owner of the business.
If your battery was installed by another company that is no longer answering the phone, our solar servicing team assesses existing systems regardless of who installed them, and can tell you whether a fault is likely to be a warranty issue before you spend money on repairs.
Repair, replace or keep running?
Most batteries affected by this news are working fine and need nothing. If yours has failed outside any warranty you can still enforce, the options are:
- Keep it running while it performs, and monitor its capacity. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries degrade slowly rather than failing suddenly.
- Repair where the fault is in a replaceable part such as a fuse, isolator, communications cable or the inverter rather than the cells.
- Replace the battery with one compatible with your existing inverter, or replace both if the inverter is tied to the old battery brand. New batteries installed by an accredited installer can qualify for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, which next steps down on 1 January 2027.
As a guide, we install batteries at roughly $429/kWh; our battery price and payback guide for Canberra and Queanbeyan works through 5kWh to 20kWh options, and the savings calculator will model a replacement against your actual bill.
Choosing your next battery: lessons from these collapses
Both companies were Australian assemblers squeezed by cheaper imports, and that is the uncomfortable lesson: a 10-year warranty is only as strong as the business behind it. When you compare batteries, especially with the federal discount bringing many new brands into the market, weigh:
- The manufacturer's size and Australian presence: a local office and spare parts stock, not just a distributor.
- Who you claim through: an installer who will still be here in ten years matters as much as the brand.
- Standard parts: a battery that works with mainstream inverters is easier to support if its maker disappears.
- Accreditation: the installer should be SAA-accredited and the battery on the CEC-approved products list. Our step-by-step installation guide shows what a properly documented install looks like, paperwork included.

Frequently asked questions
Is RedEarth going out of business?
RedEarth Energy Storage entered voluntary administration on 25 September 2026, and its administrators sought buyers for the business. As at 4 November 2026 no sale or liquidation had been publicly announced.
Has Sky Energy (SkyBox) closed?
Yes. Sky Energy Investments and Sky Energy Production entered administration on 1 September 2026 with BDO appointed, and the business has since ceased trading. Its former web addresses are now owned by an unrelated company that did not take on Sky Energy's contracts, deposits or warranties.
Who honours my SkyBox warranty now?
Nobody has taken over Sky Energy's own warranty. The inverter, battery and charge controllers inside the cabinet carry their own manufacturers' warranties, so photograph their labels and contact each maker directly.
Will my RedEarth or SkyBox battery stop working?
No. A battery does not stop working because its manufacturer is in administration. You may lose cloud monitoring or firmware updates in future, but the battery itself keeps operating.
Is my battery warranty still valid?
The written warranty depends on what the administrator or any buyer decides. Separately, your installer's workmanship warranty and your Australian Consumer Law guarantees still apply, and those run against the business that sold you the system.
Can another installer service my RedEarth or SkyBox battery?
Yes. Having a different accredited installer inspect or service a system does not, in itself, void a manufacturer's warranty. We assess existing systems in Canberra, Queanbeyan and the surrounding region whoever installed them.
